The Opportunity
Our client is a key player in the building materials industry, delivering high-quality sand and associated products to customers across New Zealand. As the Shipping Manager, you will oversee the efficient and safe extraction, handling, and delivery of products, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with all maritime and
health and safety.
Reporting to the Group General Manager, you will be pivotal in leading a diverse team, including barge crews, yard staff, and administrative personnel, while driving continuous improvement and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage sand extraction, handling, and delivery to meet customer requirements.
- Ensure optimal use of plant, machinery, and equipment, minimizing downtime and waste.
- Lead health, safety, and environmental compliance initiatives.
- Develop and implement training and succession plans for team members.
- Monitor and achieve key performance indicators for operational efficiency.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure quality and satisfaction.
- Prepare and manage budgets, monthly reports, and operational plans.
- Support business development initiatives and special projects.
Key Requirements:
- Proven management experience, ideally within the maritime or building industries.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of plant and equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of quality assurance practices and risk management systems.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on team development.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and decision-making abilities.
- Business acumen with a strategic perspective and customer focus.
- Proficiency in Windows-based applications.
