Position Description
Marine Power Systems have a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and qualified marine engineer/technician to join our team. This is a full-time position, offering $40 – 45/p/hr (commensurate with skills/abilities) and a 4-day working week for the right applicant.

Marine Power Systems are a professional marine engineering business based in Kopu on the idyllic Coromandel Penninsular. As authorised dealers for Steyr Motors, Suzuki Marine and Volvo Penta, much of our work is focused on servicing, commissioning new engines, repowering vessels and providing high quality engineering support to commercial and recreational customers.
ABOUT YOU...
We are looking for a motivated and experienced marine technician, qualified to level NZQA level 4 in a marine-related technical trade with skills in at least one of the following disciplines:
1. Outboard motors. Able to accurately perform routine servicing and repair procedures and provide accurate diagnostics on a range of outboard motors. Able to carry out rigging of outboard motors and their associated systems. Able to install and repair trailer boat systems, included but not limited to bilge pumps, transducers, trim tabs, steering systems, fuel systems etc. Must be comfortable with basic 12V and 24V electrical systems. Applicants with prior experience in an outboard dealership environment will be highly prioritised.
2. Heavy diesel and inboard systems. Able to accurately perform routine servicing and repair procedures on a range of diesel engines
and transmissions. Must be adept in using OEM diagnostic equipment to accurately diagnose faults. Also able to repair a range of associated drive systems including but not limited to shafts, cutlass bearings, shaft seals, sterndrives, IPS drive units, stabilisers, steering systems, fuel systems, trim
tabs etc. Must be comfortable with basic 12V and 24V electrical systems. Applicants with prior experience in a Volvo Penta dealership environment will be highly prioritised.
In addition, the successful applicant must possess the following attributes:
1. At least 4 years’ experience in a marine servicing environment.
2. Able to use online systems to identify OEM parts, service instructions, record service routines, lodge warranty claims, order parts for jobs and record job costs.
3. Must be able to plan jobs and perform work unsupervised.
4. Must display good interpersonal skills, able to maintain relationships with customers, suppliers and subcontractors as required.
5. Must have a full driving license and be comfortable performing duties both in the workshop and on customers vessels situated around the Peninsular and further afield.
THE ROLE...
As the successful candidate, you will be an important part of our small team, organising and executing the day-to-day service tasks of the business and upholding our high standards of service. Our customer base is a healthy mix of both recreational and commercial users offering an interesting and varied work schedule.
You will receive an excellent rate of pay and be given opportunities to complete OEM training courses both in New Zealand and overseas.
Our 4-day working week runs between Monday - Thursday, leaving you 3 days off per week for a great work-life balance.
